Issue background
Safety concerns when storing infusions and fear of medical errors with mixed injections
In the past, infusions were sealed in glass or hard plastic bottles. There were cases of breakage due to dropping, and associated safety and sanitation violations. In addition, there are cases of coinfusion, where a patient is administered a mixture of infusion A and drug B, and medical errors due to human error have been serious issues in medical practice.
Solution
Development of flexible plastic infusion bags to ensure safety and prevent infusion fluid mixing by making them double-chambered.
Together with our customer, we sought a way to solve such problems with packaging materials. First, by sealing the product in a flexible plastic bag, we could prevent breakage when it is dropped and ensure sanitary conditions on the inner surface. These are contributions that only the clean multilayer co-extrusion process could make. In addition, by making the bag double-chambered in advance, we have developed an infusion bag that absolutely cannot be mistaken, resulting in many delighted comments from medical personnel.
