Colored film for casing with excellent dimensional accuracy
Issue
- Poor dimensional accuracy of casing film, resulting in extensive food waste in a client’s processing
Features
- In addition to dimensional accuracy, the edge shape design significantly reduces food waste
Application/Industry
- Ham and sausage forming processing
Issue background
Poor dimensional accuracy of casing film, resulting in extensive food waste in a customer’s processing
For round hams and square sausages sold in supermarkets are formed into arbitrary shapes once the meat is processed and placed in a frame called a standard retainer. At that time, they are often filled into a soft plastic film before being sealed rather than being inserted directly into the retainer. Ideally, the film should be formed exactly in the shape of the retainer, but depending on the dimensions of the plastic film, it may be smaller or wrinkled, resulting in food waste.

Solution
Stable dimensional accuracy and size design significantly reduce food loss in the customer’s processing
The stable dimensional accuracy and fine size design in increments of 1 mm, which are only possible with multilayer water-cooled films, have enabled us to significantly reduce food waste by our customer by preparing custom-made film sizes according to their product size. In addition, the seal shape has been modified to follow the shape of the retainer to the utmost limit, further reducing the amount of food going to waste at the edges, something that had been given up as inevitable.
